Rory joined the MAP Mechanical team shortly before the pandemic that is COVID-19 began. He is studying a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Plumbing & Heating at Kirklees College.

Why did you want to join the plumbing and heating industry?
My dad is a plumber so I want to follow in his footsteps and learn the trade, gaining more knowledge and progress.

What do you enjoy most about being an apprentice?
Getting to learn and getting paid to do it at the same time – not a bad do!

What does a typical day look like?
Whilst learning I am spending some time in the office helping out where I can. I also get to go out on site being hands-on with various types of jobs we have at MAP Mechanical.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Being new, there is so much to learn so I guess learning everything that there is to know about plumbing.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I’m really enjoying learning – its something totally different to what I’ve done before and of course I’m getting paid to do it!

Where do you see your career progressing at MAP?
Once I complete my apprenticeship I want to be able to continue my learning and gain enough experience so that I can become as skilled as my dad and eventually take over the reins from him when the time is right.
